Monday Morning Memo - 8.18.2025

Wider Horizons Events and Information

  1. Several of you have asked me about Janet Tufts Memorial, which is this week. It’s at a small venue with a limit of 80 guests. And Janet had a large extended family and many, many dear friends—all the more so because she was born here and grew up here. If you didn’t know Janet quite well, you may not have gotten an invitation. But if you did get a personal email from her son and just can’t find it, email me for details.

  2. Our Board of Directors delivered the attached message to John Rochford, retiring Board member. As you know, John has been dealing with glioblastoma and is declining. If he didn’t have aphasia, he would be updating you himself.

  3. Thursday morning’s All-Member Zoom is happening, per usual, this Thursday, August 21 at 9:30 am. Sue Lerner will send out the link and questions on Wednesday.

  4. Sunday Arboretum Walk, August 24. Meet Dick Zerbe at 9 am at the Arboretum’s Graham Visitors Center.

  5. While it’s a slower time of year for some activities, if you find you have time on your hands, or would like to get together with other Wider Horizons members, let me know. For example, there may be some slots at a co-ed coffee next week as well as at a Happy Hour at Ellen Taussig’s, 4-6 pm on Thursday, August 28. Or maybe you’d like to arrange a restaurant dinner or a field trip. I can give you tips or help.

  6. We’re also busy getting ready for the big 10th Anniversary Party on Thursday, September 18, at the NW African American Museum, 3 pm – 7 pm. If you’re already planning to go, let me know if you’d like to give a ride to another member. If you haven’t reserved your spot yet. Let me know that as well.
