Monday Morning Memo - 4.20.2026
Wider Horizons Events and Information
Thursday morning’s All-Member Zoom is happening as usual this Thursday, April 23 at 9:30 am. Sue Lerner will send out the link and questions on Wednesday.
Join the Arboretum Walk, led by Dick Zerbe, Sunday, April 26. Meet at 9 am at the Arboretum’s Graham Visitors Center.
The Artists & Makers Show: May 5, 1 pm – 3:30 pm at the Mt. Baker Community Center is shaping up to be fabulous! And we could use a few more volunteers, so call or email me if you’re interested in volunteering and we can talk about how you could help. The coordinator of the event is Joni Greathouse, and artists can still sign up until April 28. Use the attached “Artist Participation Form” and send it to joni@djgreathouse.net
I’ve been arranging small group gatherings to help introduce new and longer-standing members to each other. Let me know if you’d like to help with those arrangements.
I’m sponsoring a contest: Can you guess how many people have belonged/belong to Wider Horizons? That is, the total of everyone who has joined. The prize (for whoever gets the closest) will be lunch at the restaurant of your choice.

From several members came this paean to the beauty of older women: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/opinion/aging-women-beauty.html?unlocked_article_code=1.cFA.TJbR.jcpKmmASDOEq&smid=url-share
Bill Lippe shared this song and wondered if it could be our theme song…but there’s a surprise. I’ll let you know the surprise next Monday! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az5FSZzm-k8
Carla McLean passed on this fun video of a talented older woman: https://youtu.be/14BkQKYXKA4?si=FGMioKa-lXFXuhyW
I want to head off any discrimination thoughts by saying that I know (and know of) many remarkable older men—even though stats show we women have still got a greater chance of getting to be old!
