  4. Happy Hour at Jimmy’s this Sunday, 4 pm. Let me know if you’re coming for the first time and I’ll give you parking tips.

  5. Please let me know if you could drive an artist to or from the Artists & Makers ShowMay 5, 1 pm – 3:30 pm at the Mt. Baker Community Center. Both artists who need transportation live in Central Seattle (one on First Hill and one on Capitol Hill).

  6. New member Joan Greathouse came closest to guessing the correct total number of people who have ever belonged plus now belong to Wider Horizons. That number is 242--the total of everyone who has joined since the beginning of 2015 when nearly 50 Founding Members paid their dues in advance to provide operating capital. Another way to look at it is that nearly 100 people used to belong who no longer belong, even as we’ve grown to about 150 members! Joni gets the prize which is lunch at the restaurant of her choice. Thanks to the other 3 guessers!

Sharing

  1. Tom Heller is letting us know about an exciting Downtown Emergency Service Center volunteer opportunity to help set up an apartment (hang curtains, fill kitchen cabinets with dishes and pots and pans, make up bed with sheets and blankets, etc.) and tour another new building DESC has built for permanent supportive housing for 120 folks. This building is near the corner of 125th St. and Lake City Way. DESC provides all the supplies. Volunteers just provide the elbow grease to get an apartment ready for occupation. See the two attached pieces: One describes the event and the other, what permanent supportive housing looks like.

  2. Last week Bill Lippe shared a song purportedly written and covered by an artist known as Eddie Dalton. There was a twist! The song was created by AI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az5FSZzm-k8

  3. Charles Heaney shared a piece about the value of a buddy system for people who live alone. Some of you already have this but if you’d like a buddy, let me know.
