Monday Morning Memo - 11.3.2025

Wider Horizons Events and Information

  1. Wednesday, November 5, 10:30 am:

    1. Men’s Coffee at Ada’s, 425 15th Ave E. Michael Kischner, convener, says: Looking forward to greeting many of you at Ada's Technical Books. With elections the previous day, there should be a lot to discuss unless we get lost in music, art, personal relations, and the World Series, which would be fine, too!

    2. Women’s Coffee at Robin Oppenheimer’s, 5628 S. Willow St, (206) 321-5723. It’s a beautiful drive to Robin’s house, down along Lake Washington to Seward Park, then further south along Seward Park Ave. to her house (on Willow). For some, this will be an adventure to the South End…….for others it will be a lark. Once you’ve arrived, it will be a joy. The home has easy access, and street parking is plentiful. The main entrance to Robin's house from the driveway is up a set of stairs with no railing. If anyone has trouble climbing stairs, they can also enter the house through the carport to use the interior staircase or, if needed, a chairlift (there are a few interior stairs to get to the staircase). If you need that assistance, please park in her large driveway in front of the deck/carport. Someone will be at the door to let you in. Note: 2 cats live with the Oppenheimer’s.

  2. An additional note: Women’s Coffee is seeking hosts for 2026. Contact Ann Lawrence all4us2@earthlink.net if you’d like to have that pleasure. Plenty of people will be glad to help you. And co-ed coffees are also welcome. Just let me know if you’d like to host one.

  3. Thursday morning’s All-Member Zoom is happening, per usual, this Thursday, November 6 at 9:30 am. Sue Lerner will send out the link and questions on Wednesday.

  4. Sunday Arboretum Walk, November 9, led by Richard Zerbe. Meet at 9 am at the Arboretum’s Graham Visitors Center.

  5. Join Larry Jacobson and Bob Crittenden on Monday, November 10, at 1 pm to learn about Medicare and changes coming for 2026. The disclaimer is that they are not equipped to give you specific suggestions as to which plan you should choose. For that you will have to work with a broker who can give you available plan options for your area. Additionally, note that Washington State is amongst a group of states that is piloting a new program called WISeR, that HHS has designed to put a layer of pre-authorization between Original Medicare beneficiaries and the access to certain procedures they feel are not being efficiently utilized. Oregon is NOT in this pilot program. To make the best use of the time, please email your questions in advance to Larry at JacobsonLM1@yahoo.com by Friday the 7th. Please also RSVP to him so they’ll have a sense of how many will be on the Zoom:

  6. From Debbie Ward: The November Storytelling session is Thursday, November 20th at 4 pm on Zoom (link will be sent out later)Debbie says: I hope you will have a story related to Thanksgiving and/or gratitude. Perhaps a funny story about your family at Thanksgiving or an experience of deep gratitude that you would like to share with our Wider Horizons community. Think, too, about a story for the December 18 session…another holiday story or something surprising or festive. Do be in touch with Debbie, Storytelling Moderator, this week (debbieward222@gmail.com)
