Wider Horizons Events and Information
Chinese mahjong is happening on Tuesday afternoons at Montlake Community center starting at 1:30 pm, thanks to Andrea Trexler. All are welcome. No experience necessary. There will always be someone to guide people who are new to the game. Feel free to come late and leave early. It’s all very casual. Hope to see you there!

Wolfgang Kluge’s lecture Why I Came to America drew a full house last Saturday at University House—Wolfgang’s new residence. The photo is courtesy of Andy Miller who said: The story of Wolfgang’s escape from East Berlin in the 1960s is a remarkable human story of survival.
I’m looking for storytellers for our popular Storytelling Program that begins on October 15 at 4 pm. I can help you shape your story. The theme is “what happened to me after I finished school?” It should be broadly construed and stories outside of the theme are also very welcome.
Curious about how our care teams work? Check out the attached document prepared by me, Sue Lerner, Denise Lishner…with contributions from Wendy Carlton and Ann Lawrence. If you have questions, call me.

A tip from Rick Grossman: Rick says: There’s a little-known health system feature I’ve found out about. It’s called charity care and you may qualify if your income is less than $64,000, you can receive free hospital care. See the attached summary. Non-hospital care may be covered as well. Rick says it applies to the care he receives at UW and if you think you qualify, check with your health care system. At least one of our members, Kathleen O’Connor, qualified for virtually free care at Kaiser.
