Monday Morning Memo - 9.15.2025
Wider Horizons Events and Information
Please give a warm welcome to our newest member Diana Carey. She lives on the west side of Capitol Hill, a 10-minute walk from my home/office. Her photo, bio, and contact information are attached.
Gray Wilson has created a new version of our Member Directory. It is up to date as of today and you can see it and download it by logging onto the website www.widerhorizonsvillage.org If you need help doing that, contact Gray Wilson gray.w.wilson@gmail.com. If Gray had a title, which I’m guessing she would not want, it would be Manager of all things Data. If you have a data question about members (for example, “how many of our members are men?”), she can answer it for you--often in seconds. The answer is 44 (30% of our 146 members) are men.
Thursday morning’s All-Member Zoom is happening, per usual, this Thursday, September 18 at 9:30 am. Sue Lerner will send out the link and questions on Wednesday.
And, of course, Thursday, September 18, 3-7 pm, is also our 10th Anniversary Party. The meal count is closed at 90, but if you still want to come, let me know and I’ll see if someone else is not coming. I’ll send out a detailed reminder to all who have registered tomorrow, along with a copy of the program.
Men’s Coffee is at Ada’s on 15th at 10:30 am on Friday, September 19. Contact Charles Heaney for any details you need: cth0481@yahoo.com
Sunday Arboretum Walk, September 21. Meet Dick Zerbe at 9 am at the Arboretum’s Graham Visitors Center.
Looking ahead to Storytelling (one of our most popular “dark season” programs): It begins on Zoom on Thursday, October 16 (and runs the 3rd Thursday of each month through March) at 4 pm. How it works is that you volunteer to be one of the four storytellers (story about 10 minutes) and work with moderator Debbie Ward to shape your story for maximum entertainment value. Attending is one of the best Zoom opportunities to get to know other members. And telling your story is a fun way to provide a community service! I’ve attached a publication we did from one of the first seasons. Enjoy! And let Debbie know when you’d like to tell your story debbieward222@gmail.com
