  3. Thursday morning’s All-Member Zoom is happening, per usual, this Thursday, May 1 at 9:30 am. Sue Lerner will send out the link and questions on Wednesday.

  4. Sunday Arboretum Walk, Sunday, May 4, led by Dick Zerbe. Meet at 9 am at the Graham Visitors Center.

  5. Happy Hour at Jimmy’s this Sunday, May 4, 4 pm. Let me know if you need details.

  6. We’ve narrowed down the dates of our 10th Anniversary celebration to September 15, 16, or 18, from 3 pm to 7 pm. We’ll let you know the precise date and location as soon as we can. Meanwhile, beginning in May we’re going to offer a number of smaller social opportunities to get to know other members. That way, by the time the celebration happens, you’ll know more members. Stay tuned!

  7. Riana Nolet, former Director of our sister village PNA Village, and her husband John, a realtor and very long-time resident of Seattle, offer workshops for people contemplating selling their homes. They cover what repairs, if any, you should make upfront, when to sell "as is," decluttering suggestions, strategies for how to buy a home before you sell, and the best timing. These workshops help people think down the line, knowing that many of us intend to stay in our homes as long as possible, and once the time comes could benefit from some additional support. Let me know if you’d be interested in attending such a workshop.

  1. From Michael Kischner: My critical friend Arthur Grossman describes the current Metropolitan Opera production of Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro" as the best he has seen. There is an encore showing of it this Wednesday, April 30 at Thornton Place at 1:00 pm and at AMC Pacific Place at 6:30 pm. The broadcast is just under 4 hours. It features the Met conducting debut of European conducting sensation Joana Mallwitz and a brilliant cast.

  2. Thanks to Janni Spain for recommending the documentary Yours Truly that explicates some of the work of the Chinese artist and advocate for freedom Ai Weiwei and describes a profound exhibit of his work at Alcatraz—including the very moving “postcards to political prisoners” segment. The documentary can be rented on Apple or Amazon Prime, as well as through the library’s platform Kanopy. Here is the Wikipedia article describing the film (which is much more remarkable than conveyed therein): Ai Weiwei: Yours Truly - Wikipedia ….You can see Ai Weiwei’s art at SAM in an exhibit The Art and Activism of Ai Weiwei until September 7. There is also a display of one of his works at the Asian Art Museum and another at the sculpture park.
