Wider Horizons Events and Information

Please give a warm welcome to our newest members Gayle Gibbons and Larry Kirkman. They live in the North Seattle-verging on Montlake neighborhood.

Gayle:  After 40+ years living on the east coast (Washington DC and Vermont), it’s good to be back in Seattle. I grew up in Ellensburg and went to undergraduate and graduate school at the UW. Before moving to DC, I was a school librarian in Washington state. For 30 years, I was a specialist in information, publications, and communication for international organizations working in public health. I continue to love going to movies (beginning at the Edgemont theater in late 60s), textiles and fiber arts, and visiting public libraries. Contact Gayle: gibbonsgayle@gmail.com

Larry: I love movies, independent bookstores, museums, and bakeries. I was a professor of Film and Media Arts and Dean, School of Communication at American University in Washington DC. My work has included documentaries, social advertising campaigns, online journalism projects, and nonprofit communications. Contact Larry: larrykirkman@icloud.com

  1. Thursday morning’s All-Member Zoom is happening as usual this Thursday, December 25 at 9:30 am. Sue Lerner will send out the link and questions on Wednesday.

  2. Join the Arboretum Walk, Sunday, December 28, led by Richard Zerbe. Meet at 9 am at the Arboretum’s Graham Visitors Center.

  3. There are spots left for my New Year’s Day Open House on Capitol Hill. Better-than-average parking, but consider bussing (#49 or walking). You can come 12-2, 2-4, or 4-6. Let me know if you’d like a spot. I’ll send out confirmations and details in a few days.

  4. And here is a link to our current Membership Directory.

  1. From Micki Lippe: Get a free scarf, for yourself or as a gift. Send me an email with a couple of times that work for you to come over and make your choice. See her lovely scarves: https://tinyurl.com/5n6kunzb

  2. And here are two articles I read this past week that made a big, positive impression:

    1. What a scientist who studies protein and healthy aging eats in a day | The Seattle Times

    2. https://www.blog.lifebranches.com/p/aging-out-of-fucks-the-neuroscience -- Thanks to Micki Lippe for sharing this one! It may change my life.

  3. Have a glorious holiday season!
