Monday Morning Memo - 12.1.2025
Wider Horizons Events and Information
A revised list of holiday gatherings is attached with an indication of where there is space available for you to attend. Now is the time to act, particularly if you are interested in the Ellen Taussig event this Thursday (lots of space). Just let me know what floats your boat.**
Men’s Coffee this Wednesday, December 3, 10:30 am at Ada’s on 15th Ave E. Contact convener Michael Kischner if you have questions: mbkischner@comcast.net
No Women’s Coffee in December. Join us on Wednesday, January 7 at Denise Lishner’s home.
Thursday morning’s All-Member Zoom is happening as usual this Thursday, December 4 at 9:30 am. Sue Lerner will send out the link and questions on Wednesday.
Sunday Arboretum Walk, December 7, led by Richard Zerbe. Meet at 9 am at the Arboretum’s Graham Visitors Center.
Happy Hour at Jimmy’s Sunday, December 7 (call me if you have questions and remember to bring cash if you can…I can also make Zelle work). One of the virtues of this site is that it has free parking but if you haven’t used it and want to, there are instructions for entering the garage that will be helpful.
Please contact Debbie Ward if you have a story you’d like to tell on Thursday, December 18, 4 pm on Zoom. Debbieward222@gmail.com This is one of our most popular recurring (during the dark months) program. Everyone has a story to tell if they are brave. Debbie will help you polish yours.
**And just to clarify, you need to be notified and RSVP to attend any of the home gatherings because there is typically more demand for each gathering than slots available. What we hope to do is to provide enough opportunities for everyone to have a more robust social life!

A group of Kathleen O’Connor’s friends (mostly Wider Horizons people) gathered last Saturday to celebrate her 81st birthday. Here’s a photo of Kathleen’s birthday cake.

Any interest in attending a history discussion group? Micki Lippe inquired.
Patricia Henley let us know about an upcoming author event. Madison Books is sponsoring a reading at Parlour Wines at 7 pm on Thursday, December 4 with Kirsten Sundberg Lunstrum, author of Outer Stars and Elita. The reading will focus on Outer Stars, which debuted in mid-November. Copies of Outer Stars will be available for purchase at the event. Please RSVP by December 2 by emailing info@madisonbks.com Patricia says: Kirsten is a Seattle writer who is making it big right now. Her novel ELITA was on the WashPo and NPR lists of the best books of 2025. Madison Books is sponsoring a launch party for her. I thought perhaps others in WH who are interested in contemporary literature might like to attend, especially since the event is located not far from some (many?) members.
